Clues To Go  -    Cotswolds, from Stow-on-the-Wold to Burford

Stow-on-the-Wold makes a great start to this route, with its compact, historical centre. You then visit Lower Swell & Lower Slaughter before briefly rejoining the rush of the A429 to drive to the sleepy town of Northleach. After that, you travel on very minor roads & through quiet hamlets for the remainder of the route. You finish with three questions in Burford, where there are plenty of locations for refreshment after the journey.

The picture perfect village of Lower Slaughter gets its name from the old English word, 'slough', meaning wet land (so its nothing to do with a history of carnage...).

After absorbing the beautiful scenery that you pass through on this route, you conclude at Burford, answering the final questions on the broad, sloping  High Street, lined with several  original Tudor period properties and more fine views of the countryside beyond.

Upon arrival in Stow on the Wold, if you can't find a parking place in the centre of the town, then follow the signposts to the large car park available next to the superstore. Its then only a few minutes' walk  to the market square.
