Clues To Go    -    Sandbach & Middlewich

A circular route, starting & finishing in the Cheshire town of Sandbach, with a short tour of the country lanes between Sandbach & Middlewich on the way.

You will need to park up the car and walk around both Sandbach & Middlewich to locate the answers to the questions. There are some quirky buildings to be found in both towns, dating back to Victorian times and beyond. Middlewich in particular is of interest due to it being at the junction of two important canals, the Shropshire Union & the Trent & Mersey. Therefore take time to visit the canal side & the Big Lock.

The route crosses the Trent & Mersey Canal several times and if the sun is shining then its a pleasant break on the journey to take a walk along the towpath.

Extraction of salt was the main industry in the area in the past and you will still see at least one salt works on your journey here.

The historic market town of Sandbach is famous for its saxon crosses in the town square.

There are plenty of small car parks surrounding Sandbach town centre. In Middlewich there is a free car park close to the Community Centre (on the left as you drive into Middlewich).
